Music Monday 02.17 Jack Harlow the Prince
Rap is my guilty pleasure. My personality and my music taste can be boxed, categorized, and better defined as sad girl songs that get you all in your feels. But lately, new rappers such as Jack Harlow, J.I the Prince, and mainstream, A Boogie have turned this sad girl temporarily heartless; Finding comfort in the raspy, fast past, raunchy rap stylings of these artists that I’m featuring today.
Jack Harlow
I found out about him through my favorite artist of ALL time, Bryson Tiller. The two artists grew up in Louisville, Kentucky together and have also collaborated on a hit song called, Thru the Night. You might recognize the Usher sample in here too!
Bryson speaks so highly of Jack and consistently supports his music. Considering Bryson is a man of good judgement ;) I went ahead and checked out the kids discography and WHEW. He has such a large, extensive, collective body of great rap songs. I can say I was pleasantly surprised. Here are some of my favorites from his various projects.
Confetti 2019
Honestly just listen to the whole album. Issa vibe.
Loose 2018
I know it’s a lot of new music but, throw it all on a playlist, hit shuffle and vibe to my good guy.
I guess all the promotion from Bryson and proper marketing might have landed Mr.Harlow a spot on XXL Freshman list of 2020 along with other popular new rappers such as Pop Smoke and Doja Cat. A BIG deal for upcoming rappers in the game.
Last one cause Bryson said he can’t stop listen to this and frankly, me either!
J.I The Prince of NY
I remember the first song I listened to J.I was Need Me and I instantly mistakened young J.I as A Boogie. The two have similar styles: a sprinkle of popular sample beats and lyrics that can be found in both A Boogie’s and J.I’s work. This is no coincidence considering they are both from New York City ut, soon after exploring J.I’s music more the difference is distinct.
With a couple bodies of work already out I know there is a great amount of space for J.I to grow as an artist. After his appearance on Jermaine Dupri’s, The Rap Game, his rap skills were put on the map. Although the young artist didn’t win, it didn’t stop him from still pursuing a spot as a must listen on my list, and now YOURS, of upcoming rappers.
