Music Monday 04.13 Like I Want Giveon
If Drake isn’t good for anything [besides having 17 different inauthentic accents] he can FOR SURE find some new & beautiful talent. Jorja Smith, Bryson Tiller, Sampha, The Weekend, PARTYNEXTDOOR, dsvn, the list goes on! And now my new favorite, Giveon. Drake featured the upcoming artists’ deep, raw vocals on his recent single Chicago Freestyle.
Many Drake fans thought it was Sampha but Mr. Giveon set it straight on his twitter and proclaimed his role in the recent track.
Giveon is giving us an old R&B and modern R&B vibe. Real authentic neo soul artistry. Especially with his recent EP, Take Time. (strategically released given all this new attention he is receiving)
I believe him and the artists, Nao, have a very similar style of singing and songwriting. The same vocal power and distinction that drew me into Nao is what attracts me about Giveon. His songs sound like they belong in an Insecure episode or in a romantic scene of a modern day black film written by Lena Wraithe.
